"My dream is to make a Hindi film, with six songs, and make sure that people all over the world go to see it in spite of the language barrier," Shahrukh Khan told reporters here yesterday.
Khan, who was here along with actress Rani Mukherjee to promote his forthcoming film Paheli based on a Rajasthani folk story of a woman falling in love with a ghost, said, "if you produce a beautiful emotionally moving film, people will see it and get involved emotionally even if they do not understand the language."
Amol Palekar, a much acclaimed personality in Marathi and Hindi theatre and films, who directed the film said in his director's note that he sought to achieve a blend of the so-called parallel and mainstream cinema in Paheli.
"Paheli is my interpretation of Vijaydan Detha's Duvidha. It is an amazing story that portrays the irony of human life through the characters' dilemmas. "Life cannot be viewed in one dimension - what is socially acceptable is not necessarily fair; what is desirable is not necessarily accessible; what ought to happen is not necessarily in conformity with the reality. I have tried to project these beliefs through Paheli."
On whether he planned to act in Hollywood films, Shahrukh Khan said: "I have never been offered a Hollywood role. May be I'm not good enough.
Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan are acting in Hollywood."
Answering a question, Shahrukh Khan said it might take another five to ten years for the Bollywood films to capture the world market with quality films.
The ace actor said, "Paheli is a fantastic folk story of a woman who falls in love with a ghost. I really feel Paheli is a whim of mine. I just wanted to produce something completely different. We completed the film in 45 days."
"This film is about emancipation of women. It talks about the emancipation of women and their loneliness."
He said Paheli, for which M M Kreem composed the music, has special appearances by two of his most special friends - Amitabh Bachchan and Juhi Chawla. Shahrukh Khan was all praise for Amitabh, describing him as the greatest star.
About his co-star Rani Mukherjee, Khan said: "Rani is a fantastic actress, a genuine actress. She has great talent but lacks focus."
