Was Kamal Haasan eyeing 'Dawood' role?

The veteran actor apparently wanted to play the dreaded gangster in Nikhil Advani's film 'D-Day'

He may have played some extraordinary characters in his life but perhaps Kamal Haasan will always regret not having bagged the much-coveted role inspired by Dawood Ibrahim in an upcoming film.

The South superstar apparently wanted to play the role of a dreaded gangster in Nikhil Advani's upcoming film. That sure would have put the makers in a tight spot, as unfortunately for Kamal, the producers had already signed Rishi Kapoor for the role.

A source says, `Shruti Haasan, who plays a street walker in the film, had consulted her father on whether she should sign it. Interestingly, after reading the script Kamal wanted to play the role that is believed to be inspired from Dawood himself. Poor Nikhil had to inform him that Kapoor had already been roped in for it.`

Producer Monisha Advani, however, states, `Rishi Kapoor was always the first choice for Goldman's character. But Haasan remarked how he would have liked to do the film. His appreciation encouraged Nikhil and the entire team to put in their best.`
