As the media goes gaga over their apparent reunion, we trace the history of their volatile association

Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan may have hugged each other at a recent Iftar party, but it is too early to conclude whether they have made up. As the media goes gaga over their apparent reunion, we trace the history of their volatile association

Shah Rukh and Salman started off being good pals in the 90's

Their on-screen chemistry rocked in the 1995 hit 'Karan Arjun', in which they played brothers

Salman made an extended special appearance in Karan Johar's 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' (1998), which had SRK in the lead, and even won a best supporting actor award for the same

Shah Rukh reciprocated by making a cameo appearance in Salman's 2000 hit 'Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega'

They also starred together with Madhuri Dixit in the 2002 film 'Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam'

The first thaw in their relationship was evident during the filming of 'Chalte Chalte' (2003). Salman, who was then dating Aishwarya Rai, barged onto the sets one day and created a scene. As a result, SRK replaced Ash with Rani Mukerji in his home production

In 2004, common friend Farah Khan got them to hug each other at her pre-wedding bash, which gave the tabloids plenty of fodder for gossip

Things got even better when Salman appeared in the special song in 'Om Shanti Om' (2007) - Deewangi - which featured most of Bollywood's big stars

However, the friendship was too good to last. SRK and Salman came to blows during Katrina Kaif's birthday bash in 2008. Apparently, SRK had refused to do a cameo in Salman's 'Main Aur Mrs Khanna' even though the latter had gone out of his way for Shah Rukh, whether it was appearing on KBC with girlfriend Katrina, or dancing for SRK's home production 'Om Shanti Om'.

The anger is said to have gotten the better of Salman at the party. Apparently, he referred to SRK as a 'matlabi insaan' and, with SRK also not relenting, it turned out to be one ugly spat

Since that infamous spat, the two big Khans are said to have avoided each other numerous times at events

They have also taken digs at each other with Salman stating that during his struggling days SRK used to refer to him as 'sir'. SRK, on the other hand, had commented some time back that he had no interest in patching up with Sallu. This was after he Aamir, Salman and Big B danced together at the premiere of 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan'

There were some positive hints when Shah Rukh wished Salman a speedy recovery on the occasion of Eid in 2011 after Salman had undergone surgery for a nerve disorder in his jaw

Even Salman spoke out in defence of SRK during 'Bigg Boss 6'. It was an indication that Salman still held Shah Rukh in high regard as a professional

The much-awaited hug between the two Khans finally came at Baba Siddiqui's Iftar party a few days ago. Knowing the two Khans though we might not have heard the last of this love-hate relationship
