A 51-year-old man, who had allegedly threatened television actress Dolly Bindra with a gun-shaped lighter was arrested on Wednesday in another case of criminal intimidation, the police said.
According to the police, this afternoon, the accused Vijay Dewaan tried to barge into the office of one Ritesh Roy with whom he had personal enmity, in the suburban Oshiwara area.
An angry Dewaan was intercepted by an office watchman when he threatened the latter with dire consequences and left.
Later, the watchman lodged a complaint at the Oshiwara police station where an FIR was registered against Dewaan under Section 506 part II (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, the police said.
While overtaking a vehicle near a signal at Bhagat Singh area at Bhangur Nagar, the accused spotted television actress Dolly Bindra in her vehicle.
The accused stopped his car and introducing himself as a high profile personality, struck up a conversation with her, the police said. After talking for a while, the accused allegedly stated he was a "very influential person" and threatened the actress with severe consequences after pulling out what looked like a firearm, which was later found to be a gun-shaped lighter during investigation, the police said.
The shocked actress rushed to the Bangur Nagar police station and told the police that a man threatened her with a gun and lodged a complaint, the police said.
Meanwhile, the police control room announced the accused vehicle number plate on its wireless network and he was nabbed at suburban Dahisar by the Dahisar police.
Dewaan was handed over to the Oshiwara police, who subsequently arrested him, the police said, adding that a further probe is on.
