Bollywood's fascination to revisit yesteryear films continues. Now there's buzz that Pramod Chakravorty's 1973 film Jugnu starring Dharmendra and Hema Malini will be remade.
Considering that the late filmmaker first signed Akshay Kumar as the lead hero in his 1992 film Deedar, his grandson Prateek Chakravorty is apparently keen that the Khiladi reprise Dharmendra's character. Last year, Prateek had revived the family's film production banner with From Sydney With Love.
Says a source, `Akshay has always expressed his gratitude towards Pramod Chakravorty. He gives him credit for giving him a big break. Akshay even supported Prateek and released the music of his film From Sydney With Love.`
Adds the source, `He had told Prateek he would do a cameo in his film but the young filmmaker always felt that Akshay should be part of their banner again, in a leading role. Prateek is toying with the idea of remaking Jugnu and has already told Akshay about his plan.`
Incidentally, Akshay used to train Prateek in martial arts a few years ago. The source continues, `At the moment, it is in the initial stages but they are keen to revisit Jugnu with Akshay. As the star is presently busy, things will roll depending on his availability.`
Prateek however maintains, `There is no such plan for the moment. Although it would be a good idea to pursue in the future.` Jugnu plot revolves around an intelligent crook and is considered to be one of Dharmendra's finest performances. Its songs like Gir Gaya Jhumka were chartbusters.
