It appears that Farah Khan is doing a rethink. When her latest venture 'Happy New Year' went on the floors, it was announced that her husband Shirish Kunder would not edit it. The move, according to the trade buzz, was to avoid any awkwardness between him and producer Shah Rukh Khan who also stars in the film.
Though SRK has let bygones be bygones with regards to his issues with Farah and Shirish in the past, Farah felt it was best to get someone else on board. Plus Shirish was busy writing his scripts. But now sources state that she is keen that Shirish edit Happy New Year. All her earlier three films Main Hoon Na, Om Shanti Om and Tees Maar Khan were edited by him.
Says a source, `Farah has always worked with Shirish in all her directorial ventures. So obviously there is the comfort factor. For her, it is like when there is an editor at home, why even look elsewhere.`
Adds the source, `When Happy New Year was announced there was speculation whether Shirish would be part of the project given the history with Shah Rukh. To avoid the ugly past being raked up, Farah preferred that Shirish's name did not figure as editor. But now she feels that he is her best bet.`
Unit sources however state, `Shirish was Farah's first choice but when he said he was tied up with his script writing, she had to look elsewhere. She needs someone who can gel with her at the editing table. Shah Rukh does not interfere in the editing.` Farah remained unavailable for comment.
Looking past
To go back, King Khan had allegedly came to blows with Shirish Kunder at Sanjay Dutt's party at a Juhu nightspot in January 2012 after allegedly being provoked by Shirish's remarks. This incident came close after there was buzz about a fallout between him and Farah when she started Tees Maar Khan with Akshay Kumar.
