On the coming Durga Puja, thespian, Amitabh Bachchan wishes that peace and understanding may spread all over. He hoped for good health for all, the near and dear ones. And, prayed for the ability to keep working.

Amitabh celebrated his 71st birthday on October 11, unlike last year, in mellowed down fashion this time. He is preparing for shoot of his next which went on the floor recently.

Remember, his wife Jaya Bahaduri Bachchan is a Bengali and Durga Puja has enormous significance for the people of Bengal. Amitabh had worked in Kolkata for seven years as an executive. He reminisces that the occasion has electric atmosphere. There are pandals, rituals, music and traditional festivities.

The theatre and song segment of the devotees is also very active. A non-Kolkatan would find it difficult to comprehend what Durga Puja actually means to the Bengalis.


In Mumbai, he says that he and his wife Jaya visit different pandals and attend the prayers which are organized by different societies. Tradition has been an integral part of our existence in India. Durga Puja is pious event for all of us.
