Actor Saif Ali Khan on Wednesday provoked the ire of the media when he along with his co-stars from his upcoming movie 'Bullett Raja' reached three hours late for an event organised by the Election Commission in New Delhi.
The event was to begin at 11:30 am, but the celebrities arrived only after 1:30 pm, angering reporters.
The moment the 43-year-old actor along with Sonakshi Sinha, Jimmy Shergill and 'Bullett Raja' director Tigmanshu Dhulia arrived at the venue of the function, organised to spread awareness about the significance of voting in the December 4 assembly polls in Delhi, the media reacted angrily and asked the 'Nawab' to apologise for coming late and making the people wait for so long.
A reluctant Saif Ali Khan said that he would have apologised if it was his fault, and blamed the organisers for the delay.
"I will not apologise because it is not my fault... I was stuck in traffic. I should not be blamed for this chaos and I feel stars should not come to Delhi. This is my last visit to Delhi and henceforth, I will give interviews from Mumbai.
"If anybody should apologise it is the election officials as they didn't convey the right time," said Saif.
Several requests were made by the organisers and later by the celebrities as well to pacify the reporters, but to no avail.
The stars then were forced to cancel the scheduled press conference and forced to leave.
The fact that several school and college students barged in at the small conference room to catch a glimpse of the stars further led to utter chaos and commotion.
The actors were whisked away in cars waiting outside, and returned to their hotels.
Later, District Election Officer (North) A M More said that "he (Saif) apologised. We from the district administration also apologised on this issue that he got late. This should be considered by the media... We are coming together for the cause.
"Generally stars have other engagements, he must be having some other commitments. He came here to give the message that voters should participate in the election."
Saif too was heard apologising to a few people as he rushed out of the venue.
