Even though his parents have been active in the political field, Abhishek Bachchan has no plans of going that way. He also chats with us about films, controversies and of course, his wife, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
Do you still get those jitters on Fridays?
Of course I do. Anyone would get it when you work hard on the film and you definitely want it to do well. Even if you try to stay away from it, you cannot get over it. This is something you have to go through and it is torturous. My friends and everyone have given me positive feedback. Dhoom is the most loved franchise in the country thankfully, therefore there is lot of positive vibes surrounding it. All the three (films) are separate films for me and they are very close to me.
Each Dhoom film has managed to get more attention for the villain than the hero. Do you agree?
No. I am the hero of Dhoom, let villains do whatever they want. At the end of the film since I am a cop, I have to catch them and put them behind the bars. I am the good guy and they are the bad guys. As simple as that.
There were reports that Aditya Chopra and company forgot to invite you to one of the events?
I really have nothing to say about it. I just know that there was an event of launch of a song which I was not called for. But that is fine with me and Aditya has not spoken to me about it.
You seem to do mostly multi-starrers...
I love working with many actors on the sets as it is always a lot of fun. I can only see lot of pros as you get a chance to work with your friends, fantastic actors and you learn a lot from them. In Happy New Year too, we have quite a few actors and it is a great team. We are like family now. I am confident that our camraderie will eventually reflect on the screen as well.
Speaking of family, there were some rumours about you shifting to another house...
No, I am not shifting anywhere.
Amidst heated debates on section 377, do you think Hindi movies deal with homosexuality in a humiliating manner?
I did Dostana and I don't think we have presented them in a funny way. I also did Bol Bachchan where I did feminine character but I have not hurt anyone. I have always been conscious about it because I feel that you should never hurt anybody's sentiments, not just this (LGBT) community but any community for that matter. You are not there to poke fun at people. We have done some sensible films on this subject but no one talks about it.
What are your views on the recent Supreme Court judgment?
It is just a verdict. I personally feel it is very sad to deprive somebody of their God-given rights to be happy and to love, or to choose. It is a freedom which has been granted to each and every citizen of the country. It is now in the hands of the parliament. They have the power to change the law and I hope they will take the correct step and do what is right
Would you ever get into politics?
My parents have been into politics but I don't see myself doing it. I might take on a politician's role on screen but in real life it's a big no. I will never get into it.
Will you direct a film in future?
Never say never. I guess it is very difficult. I am not qualified to be a director and there is lot of technical knowledge which you need. If ever I feel the need to be a director, I will train myself first. I'm not even thinking on those lines.
Has Aaradhya watched the promos?
No, she is too young to watch it. She watches cartoons and has not even seen the song yet.
Tell us a bit about Umesh Shukla's upcoming film...
It is a beautiful film. I really loved that script and such a film has not been made for a long time. A family social drama. It is very close to my heart and it will give every child a reason to think. It is a story of a son and his parents. I just know that when it gets released, I will be very proud of that film.
When can we see Aishwarya on screen?
She is an actor in her own right, she will decide. When she likes something, she will take it up. I know that she has been hearing a lot of scripts. Normally, we don't really talk about work. She is my wife and I talk to her about everything but work.
