Hrithik Roshan turns 40 on January 10. Considering the developments in his personal and professional life in the past few months, perhaps it is a time for him to introspect. Instead, the star is both agitated and hurt.
Yesterday, he darted off yet another clarification stating how the industry is taking potshots at him and his father (Rakesh Roshan), apart from unduly criticising the business of their film, Krrish 3. This mail comes close on the heels of his statement last month, which spoke of his separation from wife Sussanne.
Hrithik's statement has sent B-Town into a tizzy. It has led to a guessing game of who he is referring to. The industry is agog with reports of two stars boasting about their films' box-office collections, which they say outnumbers that of Krissh 3. With film publicity now being turned into a numbers game, it's clear that they don't want to be left behind.
Says a source, `It is a clear sign of insecurity: the bigger the star the higher the level of insecurity. When the Roshans revealed Krrish 3's collections, these two stars made a noise about being ahead in the race, also insinuating that Krrish 3's figures were inflated.`
An industry source says, `A few years ago, just after the release of an A-lister's film, his rival, another A-list actor, sent out messages to trade pundits and the media about the inflated BO collections of the other's film. It has become a common thing today; an actor's failure is often celebrated by his rivals.`
Hrithik's statement
Some people from the industry and certain sections of the media are hellbent on putting me, my father and Krrish 3 down. I have maintained my silence until now, but these derogatory manipulations need to stop. Krrish 3 has done a business of about Rs 244 crore (India) and around Rs 55crore overseas. I wonder who these people are who have been so affected by these numbers and my success. Are they the ones I call my friends I wonder? I would like to tell them that they need not ever be insecure about another man's success cause all they need to do is concentrate on their own hard work which in turn will help them achieve what they want. Believe in karma. As my father and I do. And one last thing about my father and me as a team: We've only just begun!
