Shibani, often called as a 'girl with a guitar', made her entry in the industry with a bang in 1996 when her jingle was selected from thousands of entries as the signature tune when AIR launched its FM version.
"Music is the most natural thing for me. So I feel so natural and effortless when I sing and I doubt I can ever keep away from it", Shibani says. She comes out with her own albums at regular intervals blending different tastes ranging from sufi to folk. She bagged the best debutante award of Channel V for her debut 'Ho Gayi Hai Mohabbat' followed by hits like ‘Nagmagee' and ‘Nazakat'.
Shibani hit Bollywood in an impressive way with the song 'Sajna Aa Bhi Jaa', an instant hit. Now she is working in films of big guns like Ram Gopal Varma. She is very much excited in her musical experiments in films and says "films have a wider space, a larger canvas and a wider reach so I love working in films while an album is my own expression, can be more creative".
She enjoys her time performing live and describes stage performances as her "second home".
Shibani, an 'all in one' Delhi girl is happy with pop getting more and more popular in India.
"Earlier it was not as serious as it is in the West but now it is catching up. More and more youngsters are coming up with their albums". Her songs are often termed as fusion of Hindustani, folk and western by critics.
Shibani admits that she is inspired by different masters with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, an all time favourite. "Nusrat is not only an inspiration but a devotion".
Apart from films of major directors Shibani is working on her new album, which will be released in October.
"It will be different. I am going to try some experiments in it. I want every body to sing and dance to my tunes."
