Film industry leaders have decided to initiate relief measures for those affected by the recent floods in Mumbai.

The film industry is proposing to gather funds either through a major star-studded event or through individual contributions from the film fraternity.

A major decision is that the funds will not be handed over to the government for disbursal, as is the usual practice.

"We have decided not to hand over the funds to politicians, since it is unlikely to reach the affected people due to the blame-game that's currently going on among them. Our main concern is that the aid reaches those who need it badly at this juncture," says Pahlaj Nihalani, president of Association of Motion Pictures and Television Programme Producers.

Several industry members are individually doing their own for those affected, including Sunil Shetty, Bhumika Chawla and Ashok Pandit.
