On Friday, August 12, aspiring DJs churned out some mind-blowing music, which escalated the entire spirit of Mumbai and kept their feet tapping and grooving to the music. With eclectic as the theme, The Regal Room, Hilton reverberated with innovative creations from the participating DJs spinning magic until the wee hours of the morning.
Having stormed Hyderabad, New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Bangalore, this action packed 5-city tour picked up the finest of DJs to perform in the conclusive leg to select the country's best. The Chosen one, the talented DJ Piyush from Hyderabad was presented the award by Bollywood Star Anil Kapoor.
The semi-finalists who showcased their talent in the finals were – DJ Piyush from Hyderabad – War of the DJ's winner, DJ Mazhar from Bangalore awarded as the First Runner – up, DJ Roanne from Mumbai was the Second Runner – up, DJ Vinayak from Delhi and DJ Anshul from Kolkata.
DJ Akhbar Sami, DJ Akthar and Rajeeta Hemwani were the judges to the final leg of the competition. Besides, special ‘Zoom Viewer's choice DJ' award was presented to DJ Anshul from Kolkata and "Planet sports - Most Sporty DJ" award was given to DJ Vinayak from Delhi.
Spotted at the event were the crème de la crème of Mumbai's Page 3 circuit and Bollywood personalities like Kunika Lal, Sahil Khan, VJ Shonali Nagrani, VJ Parizaad Kolah, VJ Neha Sareen, Sameer Kocchar just to name a few, and from Music & DJ'ing Fraternity who added that extra panache to the evening. The most awaited and never before seen jugalbandhi between DJ Suketu, DJ Akbar Sami and DJ Akhtar drove the crowds to a hypnotic state of ecstasy.
Aasma, the young vivacious pop band took the opportunity to launch their newest album, which was launched by the very talented Randeep Hooda. Dance Diva Soni Singh set the stage on fire with her outstanding performance. And that's not all, choreographer Rohit Verma unveiled the "Pepe Fall Winter Collection" with famous models flaunting the creations on the ramp.
The contestants competed using Vinyl's or CDs or a mixture both. Vinyl allows the DJ to touch the record being played thereby permitting him to feel the music and add soul to it. CD mixing, more popular in the country, produces the effect by usage of state of the art technology and techniques like on line sampling, pitch control and alterations of BPM (beats per minute). The contestants were judged on quality of mixes, tracks selected showmanship and crowd reaction, use of props and technical efficiency.
