Apparently, John Abraham will star in a film inspired by Nanavati real-life murder case

John Abraham will soon be acting in and producing a film based on the infamous Nanavati murder case that dates back to 1959.

The script of the film has been written by Vipul K Rawal, who also penned Nagesh Kukunoor's film, 'Iqbal'. A source says, "John is kicked about the film's story and he wants to play the naval officer, KM Nanavati."

It is also being said that John was earlier approached by another producer with a similar subject but that project didn't take off as the actor wasn't not happy with the moolah being offered. "But John was impressed with the script and has now bought the rights to the film as he wants to produce it himself."

The source adds that John will be playing a naval officer in the film and that scriptwriter Rawal, who comes from a navy background, has extensively researched the subject.

The Nanavati murder case saw naval commander KM Nanavati get tried for the murder of Prem Ahuja, his wife's lover. It was a talked about case and this story inspired a lot of filmmakers back in the '60s as well. It is known that RK Nayyar's suspense thriller 'Yeh Raaste Hain Pyaar Ke' - that starred Sunil Dutt, Leela Naidu and Rehman - was based on this case. John was not available for comment.

Other filmmakers reportedly working on similar projects include Soni Razdan and Anurag Kashyap, though there is no official confirmation on either of their films.

The Nanavati case
Kawas Manekshaw Nanavati, a commander with the Indian Navy, was married to Sylvia, who then fell in love with Nanavati's friend Prem Ahuja. On 27 April 1959, Nanavati confronted his friend Prem and asked him whether he intended to marry Sylvia. It is said that after Prem replied in the negative, three shots were fired and Prem Ahuja dropped dead. Nanavati was then tried for Prem's murder.
