Actor and Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Mithun Chakraborty today urged West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to give sops to producers of low-budget films.

"On being requested by producers of low-budget films in state, I met our chief minister to discuss this issue. I urged her to extend some special benefits or discount towards rent of location for shooting in different parts of the state," Chakraborty told reporters here after the meeting here.

Chakraborty said the CM had assured him of discussing the issue with state Finance Minister Amit Mitra. "We have many locations for shooting throughout the state where rents are required on various counts.

But a special benefit through rebates can minimise the financial problems faced by low-budget film producers," Chakraborty said. The actor also called on Banerjee to arrange a special training under the state-sponsored Football Academy for 30 young talents picked up by the private 'Bengal Football Academy'.

"The State Football Academy has already made provision for specialised training for 40 young footballers in state. If it takes responsibility of the other 30, picked up by BFA, that will be of immense help to the young talents," Chakraborty said.

"The BFA has a corpus of Rs 67 lakh and therefore doesn't need money. What it needs is infrastructure for specialised training for this popular game," Chakraborty said.
