An eight-year-old copyright violation case has led to a court here declaring singer Anuradha Paudwal a proclaimed offender.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Harpreet Kaur declared Paudwal a proclaimed offender after she failed to appear before it Saturday despite several notices.

Kaur said Paudwal had not appeared before the court even after she was given several chances.

Earlier, non-bailable warrants had been issued against Paudwal in a case filed by Brij Mohan Bhardwaj, who accused her of singing religious hymns from two books - "Durga Stuti" and "Shiv Vivah" -- authored by his father Chaman Lal Bhardwaj without obtaining copyrights for them.

The case was filed in 1996.
