Addressing a press conference, Star India Network COO Samir Nair said the new show which will be aired from October 11, 2005 promises a whole lot of dancing, great music, loads of drama. The show will be hosted by Shabir Ahluwalia and Sangita Ghosh.
He said the show would boost the channel as part of the Star Network's efforts to electrify weeknights on Television.
''Apart from Star Plus, the network plans to make Star Gold and Star One competitive as well,'' he mentioned. Star Gold is already being developed as cinema channel with the premier of ''Swades'' last month.
The ten couples participating in the show are = filmmaker-actor Sachin Pilgaonkar and actress wife Supriya, Parmeet Sethi and Archana Puran Singh, Rajiv and Delnaaz Paul, Rohit and Mansi Joshi-Roy, Manish and Poonan Goyal, Varun and Rajeshwari Badola, Mihir and Maninee Mishra, Shakti and Sai Anand, Apurva and Shilpa Agnihotri, Amit Sadh and Neeru Bajwa.
Nair added that the new show comes close on the heels of the hugely successful ''The Great Indian Laughter Challenge''.
''Nach Baliye'' will be aired at 2100 hrs every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for ten weeks. The episodes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays will capture the reality aspects of this unique dance competition while the episode on Thursdays will showcase the actual performances by the celebrity couples.
He further said Star One was launched with the promise to push the boundaries of Hindi general entertainment programming. ''With Nach Baliye, we are continuing to keep that promise.'' He stressed that the concept, the stars and the entertainment of the show are unlike anything that has been seen on Indian television till date.
''The huge success of the Great Indian laughter challenge is a proof that the audiences are willing to experiment with unique and demonstratively different content and star One will constantly look to introduce such innovative ideas to audiences'', He added.
