The actor has alleged that a defamatory campaign is being carried out against him on social media

Actor Aamir Khan has filed a police complaint in a bid to take on people allegedly maligning his name on social media. Says a source close to the actor, 'Over the last few days, a malicious and defamatory campaign has been carried out against the actor by people from certain quarters. Messages and misinformation about Aamir and his show, 'Satyamev Jayate', have been floating around on various platforms, including whatsapp, twitter and facebook. We think that this is an attempt to hurt the religious sentiments of some people.'

On Saturday evening, the actor is said to have met Mumbai Police Commissioner, Rakesh Maria, who apparently assured Aamir that swift action will be taken against the perpetrators. The source says, 'The cyber cell of the crime branch has been asked to zero in on the people carrying out these unlawful activities.'

The actor has also decided to fight this smear campaign on social media. An excerpt from one of his posts reads as follows: 'False and malicious messages are circulating through various electronic media, including Whatsapp, Facebook, Twitter and other social media networks alleging that donations are being sought in my television programme, Satyamev Jayate Season 2, in relation to an entity by the name of Humanity Trust, which is claimed to be working in the field of Masjid Construction Assistance and placement assistance for Islamic youngsters. This is entirely false...I would like to clarify that Satyamev Jayate was associated with Humanity Trust, Hanspukur, West Bengal, in its first season. It is a charitable hospital run by Dr. Ajoy Mistry and his mother, Subhashini Mistry, and it is doing excellent work in the field of health care as it provides free medical facilities to the poor. This Humanity Trust, Hanspukur, has nothing to do with the Humanity Trust referred to in the malicious messages.'

His post also explains that all donations sought in the show are channelised for 'entirely deserving and secular causes'. 'These malicious messages are entirely false, wrong and baseless. I categorically deny that the show has anything to do with Humanity Trust as stated in the malicious messages or that we have called for donations in the name of the said entity. I urge the members of the public to disregard the said malicious message,' read his message.
