Film actor Shakeel Khan met Mr A.N.Roy, Commissioner of Police, Mumbai, and complained about injustice meted out to him by cops, requesting the Commissioner to
personally intervene to restore his faith in the Mumbai Police.
Khan, who has acted in prominent Hindi films including 'Page 3', 'Lakshya' and 'Bunty Aur Babli', Hollywood films 'One Night With The King' and 'King Tut', and also been the
McDonald's "I'm loving it" ad icon, was apparently tormented by Inspector Sambhajirao Patil of the Oshiwara Police Station when he accompanied two of his friends (Ms
Twinkle Shivdasani and Ms Tanya Mukherjee) to file a complaint regarding an estate agent at the said Police Station.
It is learnt that the inspector was not only flippant with the actor and his friends, but refused to register a complaint. When Khan questioned him, he caught hold of his shirt
collar, slapped and punched him for no reason or rhyme.
Soon, a few constables joined in and started beating and kicking the actor, after which he was thrown in
the lock-up. According to the friends of the actor, the said Inspector even tried to falsely implicate Khan by trying to 'create' a bogus case against him, by calling on an
accused (Mr Carran Kapoor, incidentally also an actor) from another ongoing case to be a fake witness. Khan was later released after paying a fine.
The following day, a shaken Khan sent written complaints about the unwarranted and inhumane treatment to Senior Police Inspector Manik Mate, Incharge of Oshiwara
Police Station and DCP Mr Amitabh Gupta. When he failed to get any response, he decided to report the matter directly to the Commissioner of Police.
"After this incident, I have lost faith in the Mumbai Police," says a disillusioned Khan and adds, "My last hope now is Mr A.N.Roy. When I met him, I even gave him a written
complaint. He has promised suitable action. I just wish he doesn't forget about my case like the others have."
Khan, who has been under constant mental pressure after the incident, is also undergoing treatment for his ear, which was internally damaged due to the said Inspector
(Sambhajirao Patil) hitting him. "He was so vindictive that I am now scared to even pick up calls from unknown numbers or open my house door, lest the Inspector might
threaten or attack me again," says the terrified actor. "If I see a Police jeep on the road, I immediately move away," he adds.
It is learnt that the actor has received immense support on the issue from the film industry and NGOs alike, and film-maker-cum-crusader Mahesh Bhatt has even advised
him to approach the Human Rights Commission.
