A little over a month ago, Rani Mukerji and Aditya Chopra tied the knot in Italy, a week after which the actress returned to work and even put in her first public appearance. Interestingly then, this new bride, who turned up at the recent event wearing a red salwar kameez, bangles and vermillion on her forehead, has chosen to retain her maiden name in her upcoming film, Mardaani.
A source says, `The film is slated to release in August and we wanted to start its promotions as soon as possible. Fortunately for us, Rani came back soon after her wedding, and she quickly wrapped up the remaining shoot. Accordingly, we started work on the film's first poster.`
Another source points out that Rani's name on the poster gives away her preference. `The actress tied the knot some time back and the posters bearing her name as Rani Mukerji were printed and released only now, so it seems to be a conscious decision of hers to not take on her husband's last name. Then again, there are many actresses who prefer to not change their names post marriage, so it is not a big deal.`
While the creative team had come up with many ideas, it finally decided to unveil the film's first look on the day of her first public appearance after her hush hush wedding. `The first question on everyone's mind was whether to write Rani Mukerji Chopra on the poster or just stick to Rani Mukerji. But after a chat with her team, were told that she would be using her maiden name, at least for this project,` says a crewmember from the film.
When contacted, Mardaani's official spokesperson confirmed the news.
