The producer of "Kyon Ki", Sunil Manchanda, has dismissed as much ado about nothing protests by the Schizophrenia Support Group, Dilassa, against the film.

"I don't see anything more to it than a publicity stunt. Besides, I fail to understand why such a hue and cry is being made over the film. They should understand that films are not perfect representation of reality and should be seen in that spirit," Manchanda told.

The leaders of the 1,500-strong group comprising family members of schizophrenics, addicts and the mentally ill have written to Censor board president Sharmila Tagore, protesting against the objectionable depiction of schizophrenics in "Kyon Ki".

Manchanda maintained that "Kyon Ki" was a sensitively made film, which did not in any way undermine the mentally challenged. He pointed out that "Kyon Ki" wasn't the first film to be made on the mentally unstable.

"As far as I know there have been several films in the past on similar subjects, the earliest one being 'Khilona'. Besides 'Kyon Ki' was earlier made in Malayalam and Tamil. How is it that these support groups did not wake up then?" he asked.
