Varun was recently seen in the romantic-comedy 'Main Tera Hero', which was directed by his father. "I only choose which film to do...my father doesn't select scripts for me.
But he doesn't like sadness...he tells me to spread happiness wherever I go and do films that put a smile on people's face, that is his personality," Varun told reporters here at the promotional event of his upcoming film 'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania'. Varun is all praise for his co-star Alia Bhatt. After singing a song in her earlier film 'Highway', Alia has crooned in this film too.
"Alia has lent her voice and she has reprised 'Samjhawaan' that was sung by Rahet sahab (Rahet Fateh Ali Khan) in Pakistan....She has given youthful and a soulful touch to it," Varun said. It was producer Karan Johar's idea that this song be reprised by a female.
"When we bought the rights of this song we knew there is pressure to live up to as Rahet sahab has sung it brilliantly. We had Arijit Singh singing it and we got brilliant response," Varun said. "Karan (Johar) felt this song need to be reprised but in a female voice as this has never been done before."
Varun made it clear that he can only lipsync. The film is directed by debutante Shashank Khaitan and it stars Alia and Varun in the lead. It is slated to release on July 11.
