They say that the only thing constant is change and truly, Bollywood is not immune to it either. With time, a lot has changed in B-town. The technology aside, actors and actresses today are more involved with promoting their films than ever before.
That said, it is interesting to note that some of these actresses still adhere to a traditional mindset, at least they seem to want to portray that image. These are independent women who have been relentlessly career-oriented and yet when it comes to certain things, they choose to be discreet. Be it their love lives or their refusal to do bold scenes (read: kissing and bikini scenes), these women have stuck to a rather orthodox approach.
Hitlist points out some of these actresses and their seemingly conservative choices...
Shraddha Kapoor
An instance that comes to mind is that of actress Shraddha Kapoor, who was spotted outside Aditya Roy Kapur's house on Tuesday night.
The Aashiqui 2 co-stars are rumoured to be seeing each other for quite some time now, but they both have been denying the same. It may be pointed out that in the past, they have apparently been spotted hanging out at Carter Road as well.
On Tuesday night, Shraddha Kapoor was spotted outside rumoured beau Aditya Roy Kapur's house. The actress, however, refuses to admit to a relationship with her Aashiqui 2 co-star.
Moreover, the chemistry between the two actors in their film was palpable and their pairing was well-received. The mystery then is this: why is Shraddha keeping mum about her relationship? To add to it, the actress has apparently not been seen at Roy Kapur's family get-togethers. It seems like the actress doesn't want to come out in the open about her love life.
Anushka Sharma
She is considered to be among the most outspoken actresses in the industry. But the Band Baaja Baaraat actress has maintained a stoic silence over her alleged relationship with cricketer Virat Kohli.
The two have been spotted in each other's company on many occasions - they were snapped holding hands on a street in Auckland, not to mention the buzz about them flying down to meet each other in their free time - but Anushka still hasn't spoken about her equation with Virat. During a recent interview, she was quizzed about the same by filmmaker Karan Johar but she steered clear of replying to him. Why the shroud of secrecy when images of the two together have already been leaked out? Also, the actress reacted strongly when rumours about a cosmetic surgery started doing the rounds.
Sonakshi Sinha
Sonakshi Sinha may be among the younger actresses of today, but Shatrughan Sinha's daughter has apparently had no qualms about letting it be known that she is traditional in her thinking.
Her private life and her choice of roles are said to bear testimony to that. Sources say that the actress has turned down many films where she was expected to wear short dresses and indulge in skin show. The actress has apparently been following a strict code of conduct right from the time she entered the film industry. As per this code, she is said to be opposed to doing intimate (reading: kissing) scenes and wearing short clothes and bikinis.
Rani Mukerji
Rani has reportedly said that she did not talk about her relationship with Aditya Chopra all this while, as she didn't want to embarrass their families by entertaining queries about their relationship.
How declaring one's love for another person can embarrass the families concerned is anybody's guess. Also, Rani claimed that her first date with Aditya Chopra was the first one ever in her life. At 36, when an actress claims to have never gone on a date till about four years ago, it seems a little unbelievable. Or was she trying to fit in the old-fashioned 'good girl' mould? For someone who - post her wedding - admits to have been in a relationship for more than four years, it's important to note that the actress didn't utter a word about her relationship all those years.
Genelia D'Souza
Genelia D'Souza and Riteish Deshmukh have a similar love history. The two apparently fell in love with each other when they were cast together in Masti, their first film together.
They never talked about their relationship, despite the rumour mills suggesting that they were deeply in love. Over time, their relationship deepened and they decided to speak about their relationship only when they were ready to declare their wedding date. The couple clearly chose to follow a rather traditional outlook here.
