We take a look at the upcoming projects that some actors and filmmakers are banking on in order to turn things around in their career

Like most people, stars too have their good and bad days. There's hardly a B-town celeb who hasn't had a flop; then again, a successful star is someone who has delivered a string of bankable hits. It's no wonder then that for celebs whose recent films haven't exactly set cash registers ringing, their upcoming films are what they're pinning their hopes on. These are indeed crucial films for them and it remains to be seen as to how things will pan out for these leading stars who are now vying for their place in the sun.

What's more, soaring revenue and a big banner aren't the only magic formulae these days; a good script also plays a key role in shaping a star's image. Clearly, variety and versatility are up there with box office collections.

Hitlist gives you the lowdown on some Bollywood celebrities who are not leaving any stone unturned in a bid to give their upcoming film that all important fillip...

Anushka Sharma

Of late, she has been in the news more for her alleged relationship with cricketer Virat Kohli than her films. Last seen in Shah Rukh Khan-starrer, Jab Tak Hain Jaan (2012), she will be back in the limelight when her films, Bombay Velvet and P.K. line up for release. Post that Anushka only has two other films that she's working on, so understandably, a lot is stake for the actress now.

Priyanka Chopra

She made her Bollywood debut back in 2003 opposite Sunny Deol in The Hero: Love Story of a Spy and since then, she has come a long way. She has had a career peppered with hits and flops and now she has a lot riding on her upcoming film, Mary Kom, a biopic based on the Manipuri boxing champion. Clearly, this film will be a game changer for her and she's keeping her fingers crossed even as the film readies for release on September 5. Post Mary Kom, PeeCee has another multi-starrer, Dil Dhadakne Do, to look forward to and Madhur Bhandarkar's film, Madamji.

Rani Mukerji

Rani may have tasted success in her acting career, but over the past few years, she has not had that one big hit. Her most recent hit was the Aamir Khan-starrer, Talaash (2012) and now she is back on the big screen with Mardaani. Needless to say, she is going all out to promote this film.

Abhishek Bachchan

Abhishek's career has been dotted with ups and downs. His debut film, Refugee (2000) didn't impress the audiences, but he tasted success with Bunty Aur Babli (2005) and Mani Ratnam's Guru (2007) was a landmark film as well. Even as he gears up for Farah Khan's multi-starrer Happy New Year, it's clear that he has big expectations from the film.

Shahid Kapoor

Shahid made his Bollywood debut with Ishq Vishq in 2003 and for a long time, he was looked upon as the chocolate boy of the industry. His last year's films, Phata Poster Nikla Hero and R...Rajkumar may have fared well but with Haider, Shahid is said to be entering new territory. The actor even shaved off his hair for the project and he's surely banking on this film to catapult him to the big league.

Anurag Kashyap

Anurag made his mark with Black Friday (2004) but he's now said to be looking for yet another big hit. The director's last outing was Gangs of Wasseypur (2012) which did commercially well at the box office. Now that Bombay Velvet is releasing in November, he has a lot to look forward to.

Nikhil Advani

Nikhil Advani made his directorial debut with Kal Ho Na Ho (2003) and till date, it's undoubtedly his biggest hit. Of course, he has directed a lot of films but they failed to make an impact on the big screen. He is now busy directing the remake of Hero with Sooraj Panscholi and Athiya Shetty and it will be surely an important film for him.

Sooraj Barjatya

With Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo, Sooraj Barjatya is making a comeback after a gap of a good seven years. The filmmaker had changed the landscape of Indian cinema with his hit film, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, and he is counted among the leading names in the industry. No wonder then, he is giving this film his all.
