Rani Mukerji's 'Mardaani' has done a business of Rs 14 crore in the first weekend and it is expected to touch Rs 20 crore by the end of the week. Exhibitor Rajesh Thadani says, "'Mardaani' had a slow start at but the film's business picked up thanks to word-of-mouth. One needs to see how it will perform this week."
Ajay Devgn-starrer 'Singham Returns' has done well in its second week. Trade analyst Amod Mehra says, "The film should cross the Rs 150 crore mark by the end of this week. This will clock the highest collections so far for Ajay Devgn."
Speaking about Mardaani's performance, Mehra says that the film should do fairly well. "It had a weak opening but the film did well on Saturday and Sunday. If it maintains its run at the box office, it will recover its costs. The A certificate has worked against the film."
About 'Singham Returns', Thadani says that it had shown more promise. "One expected it to rake in Rs 200 crore but there was a drop in its second week collections. With Ganesh Chaturthi around the corner, we don't know how it will fare in the coming days," he says. Meanwhile, 'Mad About Dance', 'Life is Beautiful' and English film, 'The Expendables 3', did not make much of an impact at the box office.
