Irrfan called up the film's producer,Vashu Bhagnani and told him that he can only start shooting next month, as he has date problems. A source close to the development told Mirror, "Initially, Vashu thought Irrfan was joking. But Irrfan told him that he was serious."
Talking from London, the producer said, "I'm shocked. How can someone back out at the last minute, leaving the entire cast and crew stranded in a foreign country? I thought Irrfan was kicked about the script. He's like family and I tried reasoning with him. But he refused to relent."
As of now, the actor is out of the project. "I could wait for him for a couple of days but he can't expect me to wait for a month in London," pointed out the disgruntled filmmaker. "Imgaine the kind of money I am losing because of Irrfan's sudden decision?" The film was launched on September 5 in Mumbai amidst much fanfare. Irrfan, along with co-actors Arshad Warsi and Vrajesh Hirjee, and guests like David Dhawan and Rohit Shetty were present at the mahurat. The film revolves around two Indians who land in Karachi without proper documents and find themselves in various awkward situations.
At the time of going to press, Bhagnani was looking for a replacement for Irrfan. "Frankly, I don't know if I can get another actor at such a short notice. We might just have to come back to Mumbai.Abhi toh kuch samajh mein nahin aa raha hai," he groused.
When contacted, Irrfan said, "I shall talk about this but not today. I am very busy." The actor did not respond to repeated calls and texts thereafter.
