We tell you what not to miss on day one of the fifth edition of the Jagran Film Festival in Mumbai

The fifth edition of the much looked forward to Jagran Film Festival is all set to kick off in the city. The week-long event, which starts today at PVR, Andheri, will be inaugurated by National Award-winning actor, Irrfan.

During the next seven days, around 100 films will be showcased. Needless to say, it's going to be nothing less than a feast for cinephiles. The fest will open with Austrian war drama, The Woods are Still Green, but there is lots more on offer. hitlist points out films that are definitely worth a dekko on day one...

Film: One for the Road

One for the Road
Director: Jack Zagha Kababie
Lowdown:
Three 80-year-old men embark on a road trip in order to fulfill the dying wish of a lifelong friend. In spite of the disapproval of their families and the limitations of their advanced age, they find themselves involved in a series of comical misadventures.

Time: 3:30pm

Film: Children of War

Director: Mrityunjay Devvrat
Lowdown:
Based on real events in Bangladesh, 1971, the film is about how rape and religion were used as war weaponry. Focusing on the genocide when 400,000 women were raped and 3 million people were killed, here three separate stories intertwine with one another.

Time: 6pm

Film: Cowboys

Director: Tomislav Mrsic
Lowdown:
Based on a Croatian hit theatre play, it is a story of eight outsiders who try to create a theatre play while breaking rules. The candidates will all be amateurs, and as the play will seem even more impossible to set up, they settle on a common ground: Western.

Time: 9pm

Film: The Trial of Joan of Arc
The Trial of Joan of Arc
Director: Robert Bresson
Lowdown:
Using a script based on the actual transcript notes taken during the trial of Joan of Arc, Bresson focuses on the psychological and physical torture that Joan had to endure. He also\ shows how these techniques were used to break her resolve and cause her to eventually recant her faith.

Film: Gandhi

Director: Richard Attenborough
Lowdown:
The film begins in the early part of the 20th century, when Gandhi (Ben Kingsley), a British-trained lawyer, forsakes all worldly possessions to take up the cause of Indian independence. The film is about his journey from a self-doubting barrister to a national leader.

Film: Mary Kom

Director: Omung Kumar
Lowdown:
Starring National Award-winning Priyanka Chopra, this biopic chronicles the life of Indian boxer, Mary Kom. It throws light on her journey from a remote village to the corridors of fame as she goes on to become a world champion.
