Producer-director Boney Kapoor has been unanimously elected president of the Film Federation of India (FFI).

The elections were held Dec 29 after the 52nd general meeting of the FFI at Mumbai. The Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA) pitched Boney from the Mumbai region.

As a filmmaker, Boney has always displayed his fondness for experimenting with diverse genres and churned out films like "Woh Saat Din", a sensitive love story, and "Mr. India", a thoroughly entertaining fantasy directed by Shekhar Kapur.

Boney's forthcoming films "Paanch", "Dost - My Best Friend" and "Milenge Milenge" are amongst the most widely anticipated films of 2006 and have obviously garnered huge expectations after the phenomenal success of "No Entry".

He also ventured into television with the serial "Malini Iyer" featuring wife Sridevi in the title role. And now he has taken a big stride forward and his selection as the FFI president marks his entry into industry politics in a big way.
