The soundtrack of Sunny Deol`s latest film, `Maa Tujhe Salaam`, has been released under the Universal label. The movie directed by Tinu Verma, also stars Tabu and Arbaaz Khan. The music is by Sajid-Wajid and the lyrics by Sameer, Tejpal Kaur and Vicky Nagar.
Like a stereotype `formula` Hindi flick, this eight-track album is a complete musical entertaining package, with a variety offering for everyone. It has the `balle balle` bhangra feel to the love-struck melodies, with veteran singers to newcomers. But what it lacks is the presentation that makes it rather unappealing.
The best track in the album is the opening track, Dekhne Ko Tujhko, a duet by Sonu Nigaam and Bhairvi and lyrics by Sameer. As always Sonu has done a great job in delivering a foot-tapping number, of course this is more like the bhangra types.Oye Ranjhana sung by Sunidhi, attempts to adapt the pulsating rhythm created by `Mehboob Mere` of Fiza. But Sajid-Wajid`s music slacks in achieving that here. You can lend an ear to the other number Chhodh Ke Na Jaa Ooh Piya only because it is sung melody queen Alka Yagnik. It`s a heart-rending number.
The next track Chham Chham Bole Payal Piya, is what this album truly needed. This promises to race up to the top of the charts very soon. It is a duet by Kavita and Udit. Both have done a brilliant job in this number, along with Sameer as the lyricist and Sajid-Wajid as the composers. Sone Ke Jaisi Meri Jawani is a solo by none other than Asha. We needn`t say much about this one; for her chords can bring magic to piece of music it touches. The composition has a Middle Eastern beat to it.
The next track Chhodh Ke Na Jaa Ooh Piya, has new singer Harvinder, and surprisingly version sounds much better than Alka Yagnik`s. The next track is another version of the opening track, Dekhne Ko Tujhko. The female vocalist here is Sunidhi to keep Sonu Nigam company. There`s not much to choose between the two, apart from the fact that here it is the talented Sunidhi who is trying to match wits with Sonu.
The last track, Maa Tujhe Salaam, is in the voice of Mahadevan and written by Vicky Nagar. Now if you expecting something astounding here owing to his unbeatable voice, you will be rather disappointed for this track falls short of making that powerful impression. Both the lyrics as well as the composition suffer from lack of originality.
Overall, there`s not much that music buffs can expect from the music of `Maa Tujhe Salaam`. It will probably sound better hearing it while watching Sunny in action, but guess you`ll have to wait a while for that! -
