It's a no-brainer why Bollywood biggies chase those magical release dates in the calendar. Ramzan Eid, Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanti, Diwali, Christmas, the first Friday before IPL (Indian Premier League) and the first Friday post IPL are all sought after because they promise bigger box-office numbers reports The Times of India.

So, when Shah Rukh Khan chose to make his latest production Happy New Year a solo Diwali release, he obviously expected that it would reign over the box office and make a few records of its own. The film has now completed a 26-day run. While numbers are still trickling in for HNY, on last count, it can be said that the film is unlikely to break the record of Kick in the domestic market.
