Mazdoor Union stalls shoot of two TV shows, 'Bharat Ka Veer Putra - Maharana Pratap' and 'Ashoka', and demands compensation for family of dead technician

The members of Allied Mazdoor Union called for non-cooperation on the sets of two TV shows on Tuesday allegedly as the production house concerned was delaying payment of compensation to the bereaved family of worker Abdul Samad. The worker died in a road accident six months ago during an outdoor shoot. He is survived by his mother, wife and daughter aged nine.

The union, which sent a notice to the production house four days ago about the pending compensation, resorted to a ceasework on the sets of 'Bharat Ka Veer Putra - Maharana Pratap' in Film City maidan, and upcoming show, 'Ashoka' in ND Studios.

Gangeshwar Shrivastava, general secretary of Allied Mazdoor Union, says, "In case of outdoor shoots, the workers' wellbeing is the responsibility of the production house. They are ready to give only Rs 2 lakh to Samad's family but we have asked for Rs 7.5 lakh."

Abhimanyu Singh of the production house says, "We are willing to help them on humanitarian grounds and have extended a job offer to his wife, though we are not bound by law in this case as the demise took place outside the sets, due to alcohol use."
