Contrary to expectations, 'PK' which opened amid a whiff of mixed reviews received a somewhat OK response at the ticket window, and could only manage to rake in Rs 26.63 Cr on day one, besides an overseas' earning of USD 132,108.
Whereas on day two i.e. on Saturday this Aamir, Anushka and Sanjay Dutt starrer picked up the momentum because of good word of mouth publicity, and managed to earn approximately Rs 29.50 crore from the ticket window.
But what followed next was even more astonishing, when on day third the collection of 'PK' reached a record high and bagged approximately Rs 37 crore on Sunday, making its over all earning Rs 92.50 Cr from the domestic BO. And as per records this is one of the biggest amount which any movie had collected on its day three.
If reports pertaining to PK's collection are to be believed then they suggest that movie is doing a great business at multiplexes because of the decision of some of the single screen theater owners of not showing 'PK' because of certain demands of the makers. Well whatever is the truth is, all we can say is that by every mean things are working in the favor of the makers.
With 'PK', Mr Perfectionist Aamir and Rajkumar Hirani have united almost after four years ever since the release of '3 Idiots', which literally smashed all the records of Bollywood history.
Though it is quite conspicuously visible that despite being a rational cine chronicle, 'PK' lacks that luster which '3 Idiots' had. But keeping in view this delayed take-off of a sort, where PK's business has picked up on day 3, now it will be interesting to see that whether it succeeds in breaking the record of '3 Idiots' or not.
Besides with a few holidays lined up in the coming week, let's also keep our fingers crossed to see that if 'PK' manages to emerge as the biggest grosser of the year by outmaneuvering other big BO grossers of the year like SRK's 'Happy New Year', Salman's 'Kick' and Hrithik's 'Bang Bang'.
