"In our country, right from their childhood girls are fed with the idea of marriage. There is always a pressure about getting married when a girl reaches a certain age.
"In this film the message is that a girl can be happy by being with her self. She does not need to get married. A lot of serious topics like marriage, love, dowry, relationship with in-laws are touched upon in this film but in a lighter way," Sonam told reporters during a promotional event for the movie here.
The 29-year-old Bollywood fashionista said her character Dolly, who is termed as a 'luteri dulhan' in the film, became a conwoman for a reason.
"She is a girl who has a past and there is a reason why she became a con bride. Conning is her job and she takes it very seriously. She meets men, traps them into marriage and then robs and leaves them. She has a great team with her who supports her," she said.
'Dolly Ki Doli' has been directed by debutante Abhishek Dogra and produced by Arbaaz Khan. This is Arbaaz's third film as a producer. He has previously produced 'Dabangg' and its sequel 'Dabangg 2'.
The actor-turned-filmmaker said even though the film has a message, it has been made for the soul purpose of entertainment.
"The film is not made specifically to give any social message... There has been no deliberate attempt. People can derive whatever message they want from the film. Our intent to make this film is to entertain people," he said.
Dogra said he was inspired by several real-life incidents especially one in Haryana where a woman conned grooms, to make this film.
"I have taken bits and pieces from several incidents as an inspiration to make this film. We have researched a lot and then used our own imagination as well," he said.
The film also stars Pulkit Samrat, Rajkummar Rao and Varun Sharma. The film will hit theatres tomorrow.
