Filmmaker T.P. Aggarwal, who has made movies like "Love In Nepal", "Return Of Jewel Thief", "Khamosh" and "Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam", is gearing up to release "Manoranjan - The Other Side of Entertainment".
"'Manoranjan' is the story of every Indian who aspires to enter the world of films. It is a movie with a message - 'that you should think properly before taking the plunge into the murky world of films, since it has both good and bad elements'," Aggarwal says.
But it doesn't belong to any particular genre.
"It is about the struggle of many people and clever machinations. The entire story is narrated through Vijay Raaz, who makes a profession out of making proposals, and several significant characters emerge in the process."
"The film is not an expose, in fact, it presents reality in an entertaining form. Even the grey elements in the story are presented in an objective manner.
"For instance, there is an underworld don who takes over a film's production, only to get the call-sheets of his busy stars and not to extort money from them. I have taken an overall positive view of the goings-on in the film industry."
Asked if he had drawn from his own experiences, he says: "Partly, yes. But I'd rather say the film is inspired by the experiences of many people in the film industry. There is this star-secretary, who has his own axe to grind. He keeps making proposals and eventually gets sacked for his misdeeds. So I have not justified the exploitation that goes on behind the screen.
"The emotional bonding between Kavitta Vermma and Aditi is so strong and unusual that I can guarantee you people would come out of the theatres, with tears in their eyes. The climax of my film has both emotion and action."
He is not perturbed by the lack of big names in his film.
"I believe in completing the film first. After that I show the first copy to the distributors. I cannot cheat them. I do not want to promise them something that I have not included in the film. My dealings have always been clear-cut, and that's why they have faith in me and my films."
He dispels the notion that his past films have done only lukewarm business.
"I agree that they have not been big hits, but at the same time, I have not lost out on my investments. I have my own arithmetic while embarking on a project. From the business point of view, I avoid unnecessary expenditure, but I do not cut corners where spending is essential."
Aggarwal has teamed up with director Priyadarshan for his next film, which will go on the floors in September-October.
"The script of 'Manoranjan' is its USP, and not the stars."
