Two creative power houses namely Phantom Films and Balaji Motion Pictures have come together to produce the film.
Phantom Films was on board with the film right from the start and now Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Motion Pictures too has come on board.
Ekta Kapoor was blown away by the concept of Udta Punjab when the director of the film Abhishek Chaubey mentioned it to her. She really liked the idea behind the film.
In fact, she was so excited by the concept that she immediately called Madhu Mantena of Phantom Films and discussed a partnership. The two decided to partner on the film.
Phantom and Balaji are both content driven production houses and they are now coming together for Udta Punjab which has a very strong and interesting script that was eyed by a lot of actors and production houses.
The film revolves around the problem of increasing drug abuse in Punjab and addresses this serious issue.
Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt have come together again after Shaandar for the film. Udta Punjab also stars Kareena Kapoor who will be seen romancing Diljit Dosanj in the film.
Speaking on their collaboration, Vikramaditya Motwane says, "Balaji partnered with us on Lootera earlier, our very first film. Therefore, it's an emotional relationship for us and we're delighted to be collaborating with them once again on Udta Punjab. It's a script, a director and cast we're very happy with and we're excited about the way it has come together."
