Priyadarshan wants to recreate the success of Garam Masala through his much-awaited comic caper
Malamaal Weekly, by releasing it around Holi festival.
Exhibitors in the trade are counting on the March 15 release of the film to keep the cash registers
jingling. They are of the opinion that Malamaal Weekly will revive the box-office excitement that was
last visible in Rang De Basanti.
After RDB, many films came but could not stay at the box office for long. So, many are pinning their
hopes on Priyadarshan's forthcoming. His last comedy, Garam Masala, was a huge hit at the
box-office, though his effort at getting back to serious film-making backfired in Kyon Ki.
Incidentally, Priyadarshan's comedy formula in this film that stars Paresh Rawal and Rajpal Yadav, is
a departure from his last films. Malamaal Weekly has a realistic setting that has a subtle humor in the
film.
The director has made it keeping in mind the changing taste of the audiences.
Priyadarshan recently said, "I think the Indian audiences have matured to a great extent to understand
humor in its true essence".
