Stepping off Air Force One at the Selfridge Air National Guard Base dressed in a head-to-toe gold Gucci suit, the Trinidadian-born music icon joined Trump at the McMorran Place Sports & Entertainment Center. The appearance marked her formal entry onto the physical campaign trail to stump for Republican candidates—including Michigan’s contested US Senate hopeful Mike Rogers—just days ahead of the November 3 nationwide midterms.
Nicki Minaj Addresses the Crowd: "He's Changed the Energy of Our Country"
Taking the podium before thousands of cheering attendees, Minaj delivered an impassioned address backing Trump’s leadership and calling for broad voter turnout across the state:
Praising Trump’s Resilience: Highlighting his political resurgence, Minaj stated:
“He represents resilience. You know, so many people were maybe giving up a little bit, feeling a little bit hopeless. And since he's come back, he’s changed the energy of our country, and he’s given us a future to look forward to—a brighter future for us and our children. So let’s make some noise for this great man. I love him so much.”
Cultural Stance & Parental Focus: Minaj also touched on social and cultural debates, urging the audience to protect children from ideological pressure:
“We need this place to lead in the movement... We want our children to grow up in a place where we can be proud of. We don't want our children to be bombarded with sex changes, right? We want people to leave the children alone. Leave them out of it. President Trump, it is an honor to stand with you every single time, and I will continue to support you forever.”
Trump's Unfiltered Stage Remarks & Praise
When introducing and later thanking the hip-hop icon, Trump made characteristic, unfiltered remarks about her stage presence and intelligence that quickly went viral across digital platforms:
The On-Stage Compliment: During his address, Trump pointed out Minaj seated nearby, saying:
“By the way, I looked at one hell of a beautiful a** before... Nicki Minaj! That’s hard to miss. Stand up!”
As the arena erupted into cheers, Trump added that he hoped she was not insulted, reiterating: “She never looked more beautiful... She gets it. She’s smart.”
Defending Candidate Mike Rogers: Trump used the moment to energize the Michigan base for Mike Rogers, emphasizing that celebrity support from diverse cultural icons underscores a broadening coalition heading into the voting booths.
Political & Cultural Take:
Nicki Minaj’s physical presence on a Michigan campaign podium represents a significant cultural realignment ahead of the 2026 midterms. While major pop acts have historically leaned left, Minaj’s sustained public embrace of the Trump administration reflects a growing willingness among select top-tier urban artists to challenge conventional entertainment-industry alignments—turning a battleground Senate rally in Port Huron into a major pop-culture spectacle.
