Rajpal Yadav Advocates For 'Airport-Like' Smoking Zones In Jails Following Tihar Release: Calls For Prison Reforms!
Acclaimed Bollywood comedian Rajpal Yadav, who was recently released from Delhi’s Tihar Jail on interim bail, has stirred a fresh conversation around prison infrastructure. Speaking to the media at his ancestral village in Shahjahanpur, the Bhool Bhulaiyaa actor suggested that jails should be equipped with designated smoking areas, drawing a direct comparison to facilities available at airports and railway stations.

"Upgrade Jails for Modern Times": Rajpal's Bold Suggestion

Reflecting on his time behind bars, Rajpal Yadav emphasized that while he is not promoting tobacco use, the reality of addiction among inmates cannot be ignored. He noted that the absence of regulated areas often leads to complications within the prison ecosystem.

"There should be designated smoking areas inside jails, similar to facilities at railway stations and airports," Yadav told PTI. "I am not promoting tobacco, but it is a business that runs in the country. If it is being sold, there should be a proper place for it."

The actor confessed that he himself has struggled to quit smoking despite multiple attempts, highlighting the psychological pressure inmates face during incarceration.

The 'KBC' Connection: Prisoners Deserve a Lifeline

Beyond the smoking zone debate, Rajpal made a heartfelt plea for prison reforms, suggesting that jails should function more as "reform centers" than just "punishment cells." He used a popular television analogy to explain his point:

The 10% Rule: Rajpal noted that out of the thousands of inmates, many are not "hardened criminals" but individuals who made a one-time mistake.

The KBC Analogy: Just like the lifelines in Kaun Banega Crorepati, he argued that deserving prisoners—those who have shown good conduct over a decade—should be given a "lifeline" or a second chance at rehabilitation.

Modernization: He urged authorities to "upgrade" jails to match modern societal standards, focusing on the mental well-being and reintegration of prisoners.

Legal Update: Interim Bail in ₹9 Crore Case

The actor’s comments come shortly after the Delhi High Court granted him interim bail until March 18, 2026. The legal battle stems from a 2010 loan taken for his directorial debut, Ata Pata Laapata. After the film's failure and subsequent cheque-bounce issues, the debt reportedly grew to ₹9 crore.

Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma allowed his release after the actor deposited ₹1.5 crore with the complainant. Industry friends like Sonu Sood, Salman Khan, and Ajay Devgn have reportedly extended their support to the actor during this challenging phase.

What’s Next for Rajpal?

Rajpal Yadav has requested two days of privacy to attend a family wedding but has promised a full press conference soon to address all legal and personal queries. For now, the actor says he is ready to answer any allegations and is looking forward to returning to the silver screen, famously stating, "I want to increase my earnings, not change my currency."
