Sanjay Dutt Issues Clarification Over 'Can't Feel Peace in India' Comment: Invokes Munna Bhai's 'Gandhigiri' After Social Media Backlash!
Veteran actor Sanjay Dutt has stepped forward to clear the air following a wave of online criticism over his recent remarks regarding the lack of peace in India.

Taking to social media late Sunday evening, the 67-year-old actor issued a detailed statement clarifying that his statements—made during an appearance on Shekhar Suman’s talk show Shekhar Tonite—were part of a scripted, satirical routine inspired by his iconic Munna Bhai character and were taken entirely out of context.

The controversy emerged from a Gandhi Jayanti special episode of Shekhar Tonite, where host Shekhar Suman and Dutt engaged in a free-flowing discussion on society, politics, and the state of the nation.

Speaking about the social climate, Dutt had remarked: “The people of this country are so lovely. There should be peace here. I can't feel that peace in our country anymore. We Indians are large-hearted people, and we are hospitable. We have given so much, and we should always remain that way. I pray to Shivji that those days come back soon.”

Addressing the mounting controversy, Dutt posted a public clarification on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, stating that a harmless comedy segment had been divorced from its format:

“I would like to clarify that it was never my intention to hurt, offend, or disrespect the sentiments of any individual, community, or institution.

My remarks were made in the context of a scripted conversation intended to be light-hearted and humorous. The spirit behind them was similar to the humour and satire seen in films like Munna Bhai, particularly the concept of ‘Gandhigiri’, which was intended to convey a message of love, warmth, togetherness, and goodwill.

Unfortunately, my words were interpreted outside of that intended context.”

In an era where long-form chat show appearances are routinely chopped into bite-sized social clips, satirical routines run a constant risk of misinterpretation. By directly invoking the philosophical core of Munna Bhai and reaffirming his respect for the nation, Sanjay Dutt’s swift clarification aims to defuse manufactured outrage and emphasize the intent of unity behind his words.
