‘Scoop’ is heading into a second season, with pre-production now well underway and filming expected to start around February 2027. Unlike the first installment, this season won't draw from Jigna Vora's story — Hansal Mehta and his team are building an entirely fresh narrative and world from scratch, according to a source close to the project. The streamer has already given the project its green light, and casting is currently in progress, with the makers said to be considering some strong talent for the new season.

This tracks with what Mehta had signaled back in 2023, when he confirmed a second season was in development and noted it would take a markedly different direction from the first, with plans to dig into other facets of media culture — journalists, newsrooms, and the scramble for breaking stories.

Season one of 'Scoop' which dropped on Netflix in 2023, drew inspiration from Jigna Vora's memoir about her time in Byculla jail. Karishma Tanna led the show as a crime reporter whose career implodes after she's implicated in a fellow journalist's murder. Mehta directed the series, which he co-created with Mrunmayee Lagoo Waikul and which was produced by Matchbox Shots. The cast also included Prosenjit Chatterjee, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Harman Baweja, Tannishtha Chatterjee, and Deven Bhojani.

Details on Season 2's plot and cast are still being kept under wraps while casting continues. Matchbox Shots has already listed 'Scoop 2' among its upcoming slate.
