As the other movies, this film was originally titled Billu Barber, but salon and beauty parlor associations of Bandra raised questions by finding the word 'Barber' unfavorable. After this, Shah Rukh Khan eventually removed the word from the movie title and promotions, renaming the film Billu.

Padmaavat
The film became the biggest controversial during the production itself. As several Rajput caste organizations were opposed and later destroy the film sets, alleging that the film portrays Padmavati, a Rajput queen, in a bad light. They had also assaulted Bhansali on a film set. After which the title of the film got changed from Padmaavati to Padmaavat.
