Bollywood's Poster Copycats
After witnessing a huge flurry of remakes and sequels, cine junkies have understood that our B-town biggies have run out of innovative and novel ideas to make a successful celluloid tale.
But now it looks like that these entertainment entrepreneurs are even running short of aesthetic ideas for the pictorial depictions of their cine flicks.
So let's have a look at a few such Bollywood cine posters, which look more of a copied piece of art than an inspired one.
-
Heroine - The Lost Flamingoes of Bombay and The Emancipation of Mimi
This much talked about cine flick Heroine of Madhur Bhandarkar is already a talk of the town. But it looks like that after putting in so much of effort in making the movie, Madhur has exhausted.
And hence he preferred to copy the design of a poster from the cover of Siddharth Sanghvi's book 'The Lost Flamingos of Bombay', where a model is lying on a floor with legs crossed which looks quite similar to Bebo's posture on the poster.
At the same time, the posture of Kareena also resembles a photograph of Mariah Carey for her album 'The Emancipation of Mimi.'
Did anybody say 'Nakal Ke Liye Bhi Akal Ki Zaroorat Hoti Hai!'
-
Ra.One - Batman Begins
When SRK's Ra.One was about to release, the Baadshah of Bollywood didn't leave any of the endorsement avenues unexplored in order to make his dream project a massive hit.
But when the poster of the movie was unveiled, it immediately reminded people of Christian Bale and Kathie Holmes starrer 'Batman Begins', because of its drastic resemblance with it.
With male protagonist holding an unconscious lady and a destructive background, the Poster of Ra.One was an exact copy.
-
Zindagi Na Milehi Dobara - Lords of Dogtown
With an innovative concept and a glittering star cast, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara emerged as a blockbuster success of 2011.
But on the pictorial depiction front, this larger then life saga disappointed the cine buffs who were expecting that at least the poster of this much adored movie will be an original piece of creativity.
Just like rest of Bollywood, brother sister duo Farhan and Zoya also looked for bare-bodied inspiration in Katherine Hardwicke's 'Lords of Dogtown'.
-
Murder 2 - Antichrist
In order to pick a perfect cine poster for their sex-crime saga Murder-2 , Bhatts even asked the audience to choose their favourite poster.
But ultimately the poster that emerged as the face of this erotic thriller-featuring Emraan Hashmi and Jacqueline with outstretched arms entangled between some branches and roots was again a picked up design from poster of Lars won Trier's 'Antichrist.'
-
Anjaana Anjaani- An Education
The musical tale starring Ranbir and PC too had a poster, for which the concept was lifted from the Hollywood cine flick 'An Education' directed by Lone Scherfig.
The Poster of Anjaana Anjaani looked like a mirror image of 'An Education' with protagonists donning a similar attire, with similar hand position and even lying on a similar block floor.
O gosh creativity seems to be extincting in Bollywood!
-
Kites - The Notebook
Inspite of having gorgeous firang diva, Barbara Mori, Hrithik's Kites failed to take off at the Box Office. Possibly due of the predominance of English-Spanish dialect.
And as far as the poster of the movie is concerned, then that too lacked originality which was a visual rip-off of Hollywood cine flick 'Notebook' starring Rayal Gosling and Rachel McAdam.
-
Ugli Aur Pagli - Til Death
It won't be wrong to say that the makers of Ugly aur Pagli were thoroughly lacking in the creativity department. Reportedly, with a story lifted from a Korean movie, 'My Sassy Girl', the concept of the poster for the movie was also a stolen one.
The poster of Ugly Aur Pagli, where sultry damsel Mallaika is seen lifting Ranvir Shorey was a copy of a successful TV series 'Til Death.'
-
Hulchul - My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Contrary to its name, Akshay Khanna and Kareena starrer Hulchul couldn't even stir the BO.
Crowded with its entire star cast, the poster of Hulchul was also a stolen concept, copied (not inspired) from Hollywood cine flick 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding.'
-
Hisss - King Arthur
Well as far as the poster of Mallika's snake-women tale Hisss poster is concerned, then we can call it 'creativity with astuteness'.
Though the poster was a rip-off of Hollywood warrior saga 'King Arthur', the makers of Hiss very smartly replaced the sword with a more lethal weapon Mallika.
-
Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge - Licence to Wed
Just like other cine tales Ajay and Paresh Rawal starrer Atithi Tum Kab Jaaoge poster has a drastic resemblance with the poster of Robin Williams and Mandy Moore starrer 'Licence to Wed', where a couple is seen having annoyed faces while a man lying comfortably between them and smiling.
-
Mausam - Titanic
Pankaj Kapoor wouldn't be having this even in his remotest dreams, that copying the poster of cine flick 'Titanic' will bring in the similar fate for his cine flick, that the Queen of the ocean encountered in 1912.
Poster of this Shahid and Sonam starrer love saga, was an identical copy of 1997 cine flick 'Titanic' with protagonists in a dancing position and guy looking at girl while girl looking down. Even the vintage hairdo of Sonam on the poster was quite similar to that of Kate.
Let's hope that Bollywood fans are not treated to such fare in future!
