India's Memorable Test Victories over Australia
With a recent whitewash of Aussies in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the Indians have once again proven that they are returning to form in order to regain their lost glory in the Cricket Test Arena..
So with this recent clean sweep being the newest feather in the cap of Indian side let's have a look at some of the memorable wins of India over the Australian side.

Victory at Bangalore in 2010
Result: India Won by 7 wickets.
Scorecard: India (495 all out and 207/3) beat Australia (478 all out and 223 all out).
Man-of-the-Match: Sachin Tendulkar.
After a marvellous inning of Marcus North's with knock of 128 Australia managed to score 478 runs after Aussies decided to bat first.
In reply to massive score of Kangaroos master blaster scored a double ton as India took a lead of 17 runs. In the second inning Aussies got all out at 223; giving Indian side a target of 207 run for a win. Young debutant Cheteshwar Pujara top-scored with 72 as India cruised to a series win.

Victory at Mohali in 2010
Result: India won by 1 wicket.
Scorecard: India (405 all out and 216/9) beat Australia (428 all out and 192 all out).
Man-of-the-Match: Zaheer Khan.
In 2010 Shane Watson's 128 runs haul took Australia to a huge total of 428 runs with Zaheer Khan emerging as India's best bowler taking 5/94. master blaster Sachin top-scored for India with an agonizing 98 as and took India to within 23 runs of the Aussie total. Zaheer made a massive strike again in second inning and took 3 wicket for 43 as the visitors were shot out for 192 in their second inning.
Chasing the target of 216, India somehow survived some anxious moments towards the end, with a VVS Laxman and Pragyan Ojha on crease. The duo managed to keep their cool and took India to victory.

Victory at Perth in 2008
Result: India won by 73 runs.
Scorecard: India (330 all out and 294 all out) beat Australia (212 all out and 340 all out)
Man-of-the-Match: Irfan Pathan.
On foreign land it Mr Reliable Rahul who guided India to victory in January 2008 who scored 93 runs as India were dismissed for 330 after deciding to bat first. In the batting department it was R.P Singh who took 4/68 and restricted Aussies to a meagre total of 212 runs.
In second inning India added 294 runs to the lead with Laxman scoring 79, and gave Kangaroos a 413-run target, but Australia fell 73 runs short.

Victory at Wankhede Stadium in 2004
Result:India won by 13 runs.
Scorecard: India (104 all out and 205 all out) beat Australia (203 all out and 93 all out).
Man-of-the-Match: Murali Karthik.
In one of the most thrilling test match of 2004 Jason Gillespie took toll of four Indian batsmen and Indian side were bowled out for a meagre total of 104 after skipper Rahul Dravid decided to bat first.
But it was experience of Anil Kumble (5/90) and variations of Murali Kartik (4/44) that helped the hosts to restrict the Aussies to the total of 203 all out. But in second inning of India it was Michal Clarke who emerged as a Knight in Shining armour for Aussies 6 wicket for 9 as India were bowled out for 205, giving Australia a 107-run target for a win. In second inning India banked up on it's patent war form and it was spin web of, Harbhajan Singh (5/29) and Murali Kartik (3/32) that caught hold of Aussies and visiting side was all out for just 93 runs, giving India a 13-run win.

Victory at Adelaid in 2003
Result: India won by 4 wickets.
Scorecard: India (523 all out and 233/6) beat Australia (556 all out and 196 all out).
Man-of-the-Match: Rahul Dravid.
In December 2003 at Adelaide test it was somewhat a war of titans, where Ricky Ponting's 242 guided Australian score to 556 after they won the toss and elected to bat. On the other hand from Indian side it was Rahul 'The Wall' Dravid who smashed 233 run and took India to within 33 runs of the Australia's first innings total.
In the bowling department it was Ajit Agarkar who took the command and restricted Aussies to 196 he took 6/41 to restrict the Aussies to 196 all out, giving India a 230-run target for a win. Once again in second inning it was Dravid's 72 haul which took India to final resort of victory.

Victory at Eden Garden in 2001
Result: India won by 171 runs.
Scorecard: India (171 all out and 657/7 declared) beat Australia (445 all out and 212 all out).
Man-of-the-Match: VVS Laxman.
At Eden Gardens in 2001, riding on Steve Waugh's knock of 110, Australia gave India a massive target of 445 to chase in first inning after winning the toss and opting to bat first. But in reply to Aussies massive total Indian side got out at a petty score of 171.
And even while follow on and at one point of time were 232/4. But then what followed was no less than a miracle where VVS Laxman's 281 runs and Rahul Dravid 180 scripted a dramatic turnaround with a 376-run partnership for the fifth wicket taking India to 657/7 declared. While chasing 384 for a win, Aussie batting line up was cut to size tit bits by Harbhajan who took a hat-trick eventually finishing with figures of 6/73 and guided India to a victory by 171-run.

Victory at Chennai in 2001
Result: India won by 2 wickets.
Scorecard: India (501 all out and 155/8) beat Australia (391 all out and 264 all out ).
Men-of-the-Match: Harbhajan Singh and Matthew Hayden.
With Matthew Hayden leading from front in Chennai test in 2001 Australian side scored 391 in first inning after opting to bat first. Thanks to Bhajji's who took 7 wickets for 133. In their first inning it Indian side was lead by Sachin who scored 126 and took India to 501/10 in reply.
In second inning it was again Turbanator Bhajji who demolished the Aussie side and reduced them to the score of 264 in their second innings. Chasing 155 at one point of time even Indian side seemed to be struggling with 122-5 but eventually Indian side managed to cross the finish line with two wickets in hand.

Victory at Eden Gardens in 1998
Result: India won by an innings and 219 runs.
Scorecard: India (633/5 declared) beat Australia (233 all out and 181 all out).
Man-of-the-Match: Javagal Srinath.
In March 1998 at Eden Garden it was southern tornadoes of Indian side Srinath and Kumble who took three wickets each to restrict the Aussies to 233 in first inning. With skipper Mohammad Azharuddin playing a skippers knock of 163* Indian side declared at the score of 633/5.
In the second it was Kumbhle who took the front seat and drove India to victory with Mark Taylor's boys returning to pavilion after scoring a meagre score of 181 to give India victory by an innings and 219 runs.

Victory at Chennai Test in 1998
Result: India won by 179 runs.
Scorecard: India (257 all out and 418/4 declared) beat Australia (328 all out and 168 all out).
Man-of-the-Match: Sachin Tendulkar.
In March 1998 magician of spin Shane Warne along with Gavin Robertson took 4 wickets each as India could succeed in making just 257 runs in their first inning. From Australian side it was wicket keeper Ian Healy who top scored with 90 runs and Australian side managed to impose a lead of 71 runs.
In second inning it was subversive Sachin who demolished Shane Warne and scored 155 to make India reach 418/4 runs mark. While chasing a target of 348-runs Mark Taylor's chaps could just succeed in 168 and were guided by Anil Kumbhle to the pavilion.

Victory at Melbourne in 1978
Result: India won by 222 runs.
Scorecard: India (256 all out and 343 all out) beat Australia (213 all out and 164 all out).
Man-of-the-Match: Bhagwat Chandrasekhar.
While chasing India's first inning total in January 1978 at Melbourne, Australian succumbed to Bhagwat Chandrashekar's bowing attack and could only succeed in making 213-runs. Bhagwat Chandrasekhar took 6 wickets for 52.
Then it was Sunil Gavaskar's marvellous knock of of 118 runs which saw India raking up 343 all out, to give Australia a 387-run target. In the second inning Chandra once again returned identical figures 6/52 and demolished Aussie side to fetch a win of 222 runs for his side.

Victory at Brabourne Stadium Mumbai
Result: India won by 2 wickets.
Scorecard: India (341 all out and 256/8) beat Australia (320 all out and 274 all out).
Man-of-the-Match: Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi.
In the days when Cricket was thought to be the fiefdom of Aussies and Windies, it was Tiger of Cricket Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi who challenged the notion. In October 1964 at Brabourne test he scored 86-runs as India took a 21-run lead by overtaking Australia's first innings score of 320 all out. Bob Cowper (81) and Brian Booth (74) tried well and took Aussies score to 274, giving India a target of 254-run to chase.
Initially Indian side was seen struggling against the visiting side at 122 for 6 but soon after it was Pataudi and Manjrekar's memorable innings which helped India recover. Then in bowling department it was Chandu Borde and Indrajit Sinhji who hammered the final nail to fetch victory for the host side.
