A Big Fat Punjabi Wedding - Bride Showered With Rs 8.5 Crore In Cash At Wedding?
A video from a Punjabi wedding has captured widespread attention online, stirring debate over claims of an extravagant cash shower. Netizens were quick to react, with many questioning the scale of the celebration and the amount of money involved.

The clip, widely shared on X and Instagram, shows guests tossing currency notes into the air while the bride stands at the centre of the celebration. Several accounts claimed that the groom’s family had showered her with Rs 8.5 crore, describing the event as a “grand cash party.” The figure spread rapidly, drawing both criticism and curiosity. However, the groom’s family has since clarified that the figure circulating online is exaggerated and that the actual amount was only a few lakhs.

As per reports, the wedding took place on February 14. In the video, the bride is seen surrounded by dancing guests while money is thrown over her, a customary gesture at many Punjabi weddings. The floor is covered with notes, and attendees continue to toss cash into the air during the celebrations.

The groom’s family has rejected the claim. Sikander Singh, the groom’s brother, clarified that the actual amount was much lower. He explained that while cash was used as part of the celebration, the total was far less than the amounts reported online. “My brother runs a truck business in Australia. The marriage was on February 14. We celebrated by showering money, but it was around Rs 2 lakh. Social media exaggerated it into crores, which is wrong,” he said, as quoted by India Today.

He added that the act of throwing money was part of a cultural tradition and not meant to signal extreme wealth. The event manager and DJ who organised the function also addressed the viral claims, pointing out that the total cash exchanged was significantly lower than reported. They confirmed that it amounted to roughly Rs 4 lakh, which included some foreign currency.

Some viewers have questioned the necessity of such displays. One social media user suggested that the money could have been used to support people in need. “Help a poor and needy person,” they wrote.

Another user expressed, “I am a Sikh, the first thing that comes to mind is, how many of the poor could have been fed instead,” they commented.

One netizen said that the cash could have been used for charitable purposes, such as helping the homeless or funding hospitals. “Unfortunately, you could feed homeless people, support hospitals, or open more dog shelters. I don’t think you can buy happiness with money,” they wrote.

Another comment stressed the value of humility and appreciating what one has, instead of publicly displaying wealth. “This is ridiculous. We should value what we are blessed with. Why show it off?” the user added.
