The newly launched service is currently being piloted in Bengaluru, marking a significant expansion of quick-commerce beyond groceries, medicines and daily essentials into the household energy segment.
Smaller LPG Cylinders Available First
Unlike regular domestic LPG bookings, the service initially offers 5 kg metal cylinders and HPCL's newly introduced 10 kg HP Navya composite cylinder. The latter is designed to be lighter than conventional steel cylinders and features a translucent body that allows users to monitor the remaining gas level without guessing. It is also corrosion-resistant and includes additional safety-focused design improvements.
Notably, customers do not need an existing HP Gas domestic connection to place an order. This makes the offering particularly attractive for students, working professionals, tenants, small families and those looking for an additional cooking gas cylinder.
Safety Remains a Priority
Although orders are placed through the Instamart app, deliveries will not be handled by the platform's regular quick-commerce riders. Instead, every LPG order will be fulfilled through HPCL's authorised distributor network, with trained personnel carrying out deliveries in accordance with existing safety regulations.
For first-time buyers, identity verification and required documentation will be completed before the cylinder is handed over. Subsequent refills will follow the standard cylinder-exchange process, where customers return the empty HPCL cylinder while receiving a filled replacement.
Expanding the Scope of Quick Commerce
The launch reflects the rapid evolution of India's quick-commerce industry, where platforms are increasingly moving beyond grocery deliveries to include electronics, healthcare products, pet supplies and now essential household utilities. Industry observers believe the partnership could reshape how urban consumers access cooking gas, particularly during emergencies when households unexpectedly run out of fuel. If the Bengaluru pilot proves successful, the service is expected to expand to additional cities in the coming months, although no official nationwide rollout timeline has been announced.
A New Convenience for Urban Consumers
The move also aligns with HPCL's efforts to promote more compact and portable LPG solutions. By integrating LPG delivery into a quick-commerce platform, the companies aim to simplify access to cooking gas while maintaining regulatory compliance and safety standards.
For consumers, the service could eliminate one of the biggest inconveniences associated with traditional LPG bookings—long waiting times—bringing cooking gas into the same instant-delivery ecosystem that already powers groceries and other everyday essentials.
