Asha’s croon has Mumbai in a fix
Asha Bhosle's latest croon has left the city quite aghast. The nightingale's open threat to migrate to Dubai if the government goes ahead with its plan to build a flyover on Peddar Road, where she lives, reeked of ‘‘individualism and escapism'' felt a majority of the citizens.

‘‘Why is she trying to become a martyr to the cause?,'' asked an angry civic activist. ‘‘If the flyover has to be opposed then the argument needs to be based on facts and not sentiments.'' The activist added that if the flyover did become a reality the lives of not only those living on Peddar Road but also other areas like Babulnath and Hughes Road, which the flyover will cut through, will be affected.

‘‘Not everyone has the means to shift to greener pastures. If Ms Bhosle is truly convinced against the flyover then instead of adopting an escapist attitude she should be willing to put up a fight against it,'' he said.

Lyricist Javed Akhtar too found Ms Bhosle's comment rather strange saying that a decision on the flyover should be taken on the merits of the project and not whether a single family will be able to live together.

Concurred film-maker Mahesh Bhatt, who said, ‘‘it did not become a person of Ms Bhosle's stature to air such juvenile tantrums''.
