These days whole of politics is revolving around holes of a different kind. Iraq’s deposed ruler Saddam Hussein is holed up somewhere, nobody knows exactly where. The American and British soldiers are holed up in various trenches of Iraq in search of weapons of mass destruction but to no success. The lies told by George Bush and Tony Blair before attacking Iraq has put the two leaders in a spot, virtually holing them up deep under political shame.
Soldiers on Indo-Pak border too are holed up in bunkers due to ever-alive politics going on in Kashmir. The jehadi groups in Pakistan are on the run for cover after Americans entered Afghanistan in search of Osama bin Laden. No one knows where are Osama and another jehadi leader Mullah Omar, holed up at present. Once President Parvez Musharraf decided to enter the American hole dumping the Taliban’s hole, the whole politics of the region changed its goal. Everybody is talking of a wholesome political effort to bring about lasting peace all around.
The spill over of the hole-effect politics has entered the Indian polity too. Look at the Ayodhya digging process: workers are holed up in the trenches trying to find remnants of a temple or that of mosque. And such is the whole of politics around Ayodhya that a Shankaracharya is holed up in the Prime Minister’s den floating compromise formulas for Muslims. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad has taken position in an opposite bunker-hole targeting the Shankaracharya for hobnobbing with Muslims and insincere BJP leaders.
In UP’s much talked about poetess Madhumita murder case, the whole politics is again revolving around a hole of a different kind. Ms Mayawati has sacked one of her cabinet ministers, Amar Mani Tripathi who was allegedly responsible of getting the poetess-cum.... What? I mean poetess-cum-ministers-friend killed.... The victim’s Mom is blaming whole lot of politics going on to scuttle the investigations, even as the cops continue to remain holed up in positions to gather shreds of evidence.
In SantaBanta’s Punjab, Chief Minister Amarinder’s drilling machine is creating a hole in the armour of his rival, former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. The cops are searching and researching Badal family’s properties to come out with sleaze money, but to no avail. Apparently, there is a big hole in Captain Amarinder’s own anti-corruption campaign chart. Either it leaves out credible evidence of corruption against Badals or simply drops his own present day corrupt cabinet colleagues from counting. The anti-corruption chart thus remains eventless. Again, it is a whole lot of politics. How can Amarinder target his own men minting money? And, why should he be leaving opponents for their “misdeeds”.
SantaBanta ponder too often about the hole-effect on whole of the politics worldwide. Each one, from East to West, is busy in fixing men and matters in their “proper” holes: some deep, some shallow, to teach the other a lesson or two. Be it Iraq’s Saddam, Afghanistan’s Taliban, Pakistan’s Musharraf, India’s Shankar Acharya, UP’s Madhumita or Punjab’s Badal. All holing up in political holes!
