Madonna has supposedly ended her friendship with singer Britney Spears because Spears gave up on Kabbalah.

According to newsweek.com, Madonna had spent a lot of time on Spears concerning the religion but it seemed to have worked only for a while. A few weeks back Spears made a comment on her site saying: "I no longer study Kabbalah, my baby is my religion."

A source said: "Madonna spent months teaching Spears the Kabbalah system and splashed out thousands on the ancient scripture for her."

Madonna is asking Spears to return the 12th century book that she had given Spears as a wedding gift.

A source added: "She feels she has wasted time, money and precious gifts on Spears."
