Men join women on Pirelli calendar

The world's most famous calendar is to feature men alongside scantily clad women in a break from convention. Renowned photographer Bruce Weber says he is "tired" of separating the sexes for the shoots for the Pirelli.

Next year's calendar returns to the traditional tastefully shot bare flesh after cutting down on the nipple count last year. The calendar features a topless Sophie Dahl who said the presence of the male models on her shoots in Italy had made her more nervous.

She stated: "Having the men there made me incredibly shy. I don't know if anybody else felt like that. I immediately felt like a 13-year-old schoolgirl and found myself twiddling my thumbs."

Although male models were photographed by Weber for Pirelli two years ago, they were placed in a separate section. Weber said: "The men have been given the short end of the stick. "I was tired of separating them - it just seemed so unfair."

He says there was no conscious decision to return to nudity in the calendar, which also features German model Heidi Klum and British star Sienna Rose Miller.

He said: "We just went by chance - if the mood happened, it happened. It wasn't so much planned." But he conceded that the male models were not required to remove their underwear.
