Liz Taylor (February 27, 1932 - March 23, 2011) is of the ages. We take a look at her 10 greatest films...

National Velvet, 1944

As determined girl jockey Velvet Brown, Taylor portrayed an ideal mix of idealistic horse-crazy dreamer and hard-headed stubbornness and the role made 12-year-old Taylor a star.

Little Women, 1949

She played the pretty, spoiled Amy who eventually learns the value of family in this classic, based on Louisa May Alcott's classic book.

Father Of The Bride, 1950

Taylor leaves girlish roles behind to play bride-to-be Kay, with Spencer Tracy as the dad who's torn by having to give her away.

A Place In The Sun, 1951

The first time (of three) that Taylor appeared onscreen with darkly handsome Montgomery Clift. Pure chemistry results with Taylor taking part in a love triangle loaded with melodrama.

Giant, 1956

Rock Hudson, James Dean and a story about a Texas cattle spread out in a movie that's truly epic in scope.

Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, 1958

Maggie the Cat in her signature white chiffon dress making 'the nightly pleadings' and hearing 'the nightly refusals' from Paul Newman as her tormented husband Brick.

Suddenly, Last Summer, 1959

Taylor is a doomed heroine with a dark secret and a scheming auntie (Katharine Hepburn) who thinks a lobotomy will cure her of her black moods. One of Taylor's best.

Butterfield 8, 1960

Taylor wins her first Oscar for playing model and sometime call girl Gloria Wandrous.

Cleopatra, 1963

Hugely expensive, massively, Cleopatra was the perfect vehicle for Taylor, who began her affair with co-star Richard Burton on the set.

Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf ?, 1966

Glamorous Taylor plays the shrill, drunken Martha, who loves nothing more than emotionally attacking her husband, George (Burton).
